To all Qualified Staff in ASC who received an incremental rise this year.
EMERGENCY MEETING THIS FRIDAY LUNCHTIME FROM 12.30PM
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news this close to Christmas but we needed to let you know about this as soon as possible and to work out what we can do about it.
SCC informed us on Monday (18 Dec) that the incremental rise awarded to qualified staff in ASC in October (backdated to 1st July) was an ‘error’. According to the small print in the council’s final offer (which UNISON voted to reject):
“To be eligible for this payment on 1st July 2017 you will need to have completed one full appraisal year at your grade level, i.e. 1st April 2016 to 31st March 2017 and have sufficient headroom within the grade for your job.”
As all ASC qualified staff went up a grade on 1st July 2016 they will only have completed 9 months (July - April) of that particular appraisal cycle. The council is arguing that this disqualifies them from an incremental rise in 2017. They intend to re-adjust salaries in the January 2018 payroll and are considering reclaiming any extra monies already paid.
Please read the attached document
which explains more and gives UNISON’s current position.
This is clearly not acceptable but they will get away with it if we do not respond in a serious fashion. In order to ascertain the strength of feeling we have called an emergency meeting for ALL qualified ASC staff who are affected (around 260).
12.30PM ON FRIDAY 22 DECEMBER

Our apologies for the short notice etc. and for the scrappy nature of the attached information but we have been running around trying to organise this and to secure a venue etc.
IT IS VITAL THAT WE GET A GOOD TURN OUT ON FRIDAY.
This is a bona fide UNISON meeting which you are entitled to attend in work time provided you get agreement from your manager and any vital service needs are covered. This notice has only gone to UNISON members so please encourage ALL affected social workers to attend, whether they are members or not.
Please email Paul Couchman email@example.com
to let us know if you/your colleagues are coming and if you need any further information.
